{"id":3466,"date":"2014-04-28T00:00:39","date_gmt":"2014-04-28T04:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.blankcode.com\/blog\/?p=3466"},"modified":"2014-04-27T21:40:13","modified_gmt":"2014-04-28T01:40:13","slug":"blank-code-podcast-154-brendon-moeller","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.blankcode.com\/blog\/2014\/04\/28\/blank-code-podcast-154-brendon-moeller","title":{"rendered":"Blank Code Podcast 154 \u2013 Brendon Moeller"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When it comes to post-Basic Channel dub techno, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/brendonmoeller.beatpharmacy.echologist\" target=\"_blank\">Brendon Moeller<\/a> is one of the go-to guys. \u00a0Since leaving his native South Africa for New York City in 1993, the dub technician has been proudly laying down his musical legacy on labels like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.astralwerks.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Astralwerks<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mulemusiq.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mule Musiq<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sixdegreesrecords.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Six Degrees Records<\/a>; working with revered vocalists like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.discogs.com\/artist\/104604-Paul-St-Hilaire\" target=\"_blank\">Paul St. Hilaire<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mikeydread.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mikey Dread<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mutabaruka.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mutabaruka<\/a> and fomenting relationships with\u00a0scene institutions like Fabric, Berghain and Francois K.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, the dub landscape has been for ever changing at his hands: sometimes under his own name, sometimes as Beat Pharmacy (almost exclusively on Francois K&#8217;s Wave Music) and sometimes as Echologist, he is behind seven full length albums to-date, each of which has breached the musical boundaries of what went before. Taking cues from jazz, techno, dub, afrobeat and psychedelia, Moeller&#8217;s aims are simple.<\/p>\n<p>Listen to his music &#8211; or that which his label, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.residentadvisor.net\/record-label.aspx?id=2902\" target=\"_blank\">Steadfast<\/a>, has so studiously released since 2009 &#8211; and you&#8217;ll understand that Moeller&#8217;s music has a knack for making you think whilst you inescapably give yourself over to its infectious grooves, and his most recent Ecologist album only confirms that: Subterranean is a deeply experimental record that explores a throbbing, swollen underworld of subconscious sounds which, in its conceptual referencing of everything from shoze-gaze to ambient to rock, marks Moeller out as an essential pillar of not only the dub techno community, but of the electronic music world as a whole.<\/p>\n<p><a
