Rex Sepulveda hails from Detroit and is one of D-Records original producers. His long tenure in the Detroit Electronic Music scene has enabled him to develop a consistent ability to capture the subtle elements of music being produced globally and implement them into a sound that is distinctly Detroit while at the same time having an evolutionary sound.

Rex is a consummate producer, spending most of his time behind his computer laying down amazing tracks, most of which are for use in his now epic live shows. With technology speeding up, Rex has been able to successfully integrate his DJ skills and live performance of his own music into one seamless package that always works well on the dance floor.

We are excited to have DJ Hyperactive back on the podcast series with this 3 hour set recorded live from Scene 23.  The event took place on July 26th, 2014 at the Works in Downtown Detroit along side artists Angel Alanis and Deraout from Colombia.  DJ Hyperactive was born and raised on Chicago’s South Side. Rocking vinyl for over 30 years and soon jumped in the studio at the start of the 90s. His early output surfaced on his own imprint, Contact Records, along with releases on pioneering labels such as Drop Bass, Communique, Sounds, Analog, UC and the list goes on. In ‘97 DJ Hyperactive headed west to kick off the opening of Higher Source Records & Gear in Huntington Beach. This move also marked the start of 4 Track Records (now 4trk). After nearly a 20 year run in Los Angeles, he decided to return to Chicago and set up camp again.

After seeing chart topping success of Len Faki’s remix of Hyperactive classic “Wide Open” on Len’s Figure label and the release of his 25HRs in A Day ep with Raiz and Markus Suckut remixes on Los Angeles based Droid Recording run by Mr. Drumcell. Hyperactive’s current focus is set on a list of remixes and the re-launch of 4trk (vinyl + dig). Recent remixes include reworking of “The Word” by Luis Flores on Detroit based Blank Code Records and remix of Impact Unit’s “Silent Steps”. Upcoming remixes list consists of Manic Brothers “Sledge Hammer” on Sian’s Octopus label, Andre Morant’s “Signals”, and co-remix of Beltway w/Submerge both to see release on 4trk!

Emmanuel has been grafting away at his own productions for the best part of a decade and the last couple of years have started paying off in the form of releases on Monique Musique, Enemy Records and earlier this year on the world renowned Deeply Rooted with his ‘Deeply Involved’ EP. As well as releasing on a host of successful labels, Emmanuel runs and releases on his own label ARTS which has seen several strong releases this year with more from him to come in the next few months.

July 2014 sees the release of his second EP on Dustin Zahn’s Enemy Records with ‘Rust’. This second EP is a strong follow up to his first EP on the label, ‘Limits’ , which was played constantly in clubs by the likes of Rodhad, Answer Code Request, Norman Nodge and Ben Klock to name just a few. With the hard hitting title track, ‘Rust’ in stark contrast to ‘Detonation’ this is a venture into newer territory from Emmanuel.

Having played hard hitting sets in many of the top venues in 2014 including the legendary Berghain and Tresor in Berlin, he is now carving himself a corner of the scene that looks to flourish for many years to come. Enjoy this week’s Blank Code Podcast from Emmanuel.

Today’s podcast comes to us from Vancouver’s JGarrett.  JGarrett is the main musical project of Subspec label boss Josh Garrett. Born in Ann Arbor, MI Josh grew up with the nutrient rich musical environment found on Detroit radio in the ’80s when Talking Heads, Prince, The Police, and Kraftwerk shared space with Front 242, Cybotron, and Cajmere. Later on Josh was involved in the Detroit Techno scene during the pivotal years in the 1990s as the second wave of Detroit labels and artists reached critical mass.

JGarrett’s music is strongly rooted in the influences of his days in the Detroit Techno scene. JGarrett specializes in pure Techno and heavy grooving TechHouse shot through with Acid and Dub influences that ride on a platform of solid, funk-inflected Motor City sensibilities.

Josh has been producing and performing electronic music since 1995. He has had many releases under a variety of aliases (including Xyn, Linoleum Head, Countered) across a number of labels (such as From 0-1, Super 6, Component and his own Subspec). His releases have consistently received DJ and radio support, charting on the CMJ dance charts as well as garnering solid reviews.
